France seeks anti-piracy force

After the recent seizure of a French luxury yacht off the coast of Somalia (the hostages have since been freed), the prime minister of France is calling on the UN to establish an anti-piracy force.

Somalia is currently one of the hotbeds of modern piracy. Pirates there are somewhat organized and are a serious problem.

Mean while, it would seem that attacks are down in piracy's other home, the Malacca Straits.

Fiberglass pirates ahoy!



Greenville, NC has commissioned artists to paint life sized fiberglass pirates that will be put on public display around the city for a year as part of their second annual PirateFest and to create community spirit. After a year, they will be auctioned off to benefit East Carolina University Alumni Association.
